Panther’s first year GM Dylan Jacob-Smith is trying to have a storybook finish to the regular season for the Florida Panthers as they make a push for the finally playoff spot. They recently took on the league’s front runners for the President’s trophy Buffalo Sabres and according to GM DJS “it’s not necessarily story they intended to tell”.

"It wasn't a script we would have written," Panthers coach Mike Babcock said after their 7-1 drubbing by the hands of the Sabres. The Sabres GM’s Tyler Wilson/Andrew Hallman have their in playoff form with a record of 47-5-3 with a total of 97 points to lead the league . This victory was in front of 18,000 fans at First Niagara Center in which the Sabres continue to put the puck behind the net at an alarming rate for goalies. Just ask the Panther’s when Sabres as a team put 5 in the back of the net against their former teammate Karel Vejmelka. Some quotes from the fans of the Sabres that commented on the game said “It was crazy. It was awesome. We have the best GM’s in the league!”

The Sabres took an early 2-0 lead in the 1st period when Ovechkin scored on the power play 1:48 into the game. William Nylander and Cale Makar both assisted on Ovechkin power play goal which they took a 2-0 lead into the 1st intermission. The 3rd period is when the wheels fell off for the Panthers as the Sabres put 5 pucks in the back of the net as the cruise 7-1 win. Once the clock struck zero the Sabres Alex Ovechkin scored a hat trick and got the W.

"There were a couple of [calls] where we didn't necessarily agree," Panthers Captain Aaron Ekbald said. "One kind of felt like a late call, whatever it is, and the ref make up his mind. You got to go out there and get the job done."

In the end according to the Sabres GM Tyler Wilson "You still get two points for a win. But at the same time, you want to enjoy this win. And there's no better way to finish this off than with a win like that."

As the season beings in the HSHL, new Florida Panthers GM Dennis Smith is pulling his inner Aaron Rodgers to the Panthers fan base just three games into the season. "8 letters here just for everybody out there in Panthers-land P-A-T-I-E-N-C-E Smith said during the weekly PODCAST on ESPN de"Oche" the "Rat's Nest". The Rat's Nest is hosted by Shooter McGavin, the teams beat writer. "Patience. We're going to be ok".

Dylan Jacob-Smith has been hired as the first black general manager in HSHL history when he was hired by the Florida Panthers. The 49-year-old replaces the previous GM who stepped down to focus on his health according to unidentified sources within the team organization. HSHL GM's around the league conducted an extensive search and by the recommendation from KMP18 that he was finally approved as the GM of the Panthers.

Dylan Jacob-Smith is borned and raised in Detroit, MIchigan and has been a life long Detroit Red Wings fan since a child hood. It would had been his dream job to be the GM of the Detroit Red Wings but the best job according to Dylan "being a GM for the Florida Panthers in Florida. "I'm really excited to work in the Florida area. "I know there's been lots ups and downs but I'm ready to work hard and get at it and getthis thing back on tracks".

Dylan said there is no timetable to hire a coach after Dominique Ducharme was let go 9 June 2023. The Florida Panthers missed the playoffs last year and where on the outside looking in at this years HSHL Playoffs. July 1, with the 2023 HSHL Draft the Florida Panthers have the No. 14 pick is looking to add some shiny new pieces to the rosters. "We're not looking to tear this down or some teams have done in the past," Jacob-Smith said. "Yes, there are some challenges with the (HSHL) salary cap and they have the same issue. So for us, we're not looking to rebuild...but add to the team but be smart.

In my interview with Dylan he believes "we can improve in every facet, to be honest with you. There are some pieces on the roster that I like, that we would like to build aroung". He also go on to state, "the draft is our No. 1, then we've got free agency comin up. We'll have to dig into that and that starts with hiring a coach and development camp.
